Image and video retrieval continues to be one of the most exciting and fast-growing research areas in the field of multimedia technology. However, opportunities for exchanging ideas between researchers and users are still limited. The International Conference on Image and Video Retrieval (CIVR) has taken on the mission of bringing together these communities to allow researchers and practitioners around the world to share points of view on image and video retrieval. A unique feature of the conference is the emphasis on participation from practitioners as well as researchers. The objective is to illuminate critical issues and energize both communities for the continuing exploration of novel directions for image and video retrieval.
The 5th International Conference on Image and Video Retrieval (CIVR 2006) will take place in Tempe, Arizona USA during 13-15 July 2006, hosted by Arizona State University. ASU is one of the premier metropolitan public research universities in the United States. The main campus is in Tempe, a college town in the midst of the dynamic Phoenix metropolitan region. Phoenix is the largest city in the American southwest and its greatest attraction is the land that surrounds it: a vast expanse of untamed desert. As the state capital, Phoenix is as modern as any American metropolis, with an active arts scene and a brisk economy.
CIVR 2006 will feature original high quality contributions reporting novel research directions, exploratory applications, experience reports and demonstrations. Proceedings will be published by Springer as part of the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series, www.springer.com/lncs.
